Strange things

By Ryan | March 2, 2007

I’ve been cracking at integrating this blog for about 7 hours now. I really just want to get it done so that I can move on to other things. I’m going close to crazy (and blind).

CJ Hill’s here. That’s pretty cool.

Tara’s throwing a dance party. More of an excuse to get together, I think. I’m down with that.

“Blog.” My favorite word!

By Levi Landis | March 3, 2007

Seriously, abbreviating a word from the middle? Incredible. Also, Lizzy is here too, not just CJ. Together they are a force (that Ryan uses to get the website going).

THE LOST C.J. SESSIONS

By noah | March 4, 2007

so, tonite (saturday)……I had a great time with my friend eric green. I came home, just to hang around, and when I arrived, I was thrown into an nite of jamming with CARROL HILL, BOOKER LEE, AND LEVI LANDIS. Friends from everywhere were in on this jam. Let me say this, C.J., and Booker Lee…….wow, what can i say besides my life is complete after hearing this. and for Levi……you you you. You freaking rock my world when you rock a keyboard. The all female percussion, (and brad)……you rock my face off.  We had people who had never been in this building before be apart of this. They were all clapping and a singin!.

What a wonderful way to end the evening. It is now 5am……..i cant sleep….i just hear the words of booker lee singing directly to me.

and by the way, this awesome jam was ALL RECORDED!!

peace and love my friends

there is always hope.

there is always hope.

there is always hope.

there is always hope.

i talked to a very wise man today.. he is breathing and glorious proof of hope, hope that spans lifetimes, belief that presses on through every circumstance. faith, that endures.

and love that looks more like a life-preserver than a rose.

ah this is the life

By Ryan | March 4, 2007

Community life is such a different way of life. At least for the “normal” twenty something. I mean, most people would be buying a new car, getting a nice job, and all that (I guess I have the job). But I am definitely living in a thrift store with 9 other people.

It can be taxing. Those times when I just want to go home after work to quiet.

But it can be rewarding. Those times when you desperately need someone that cares about you and supports you.

It can be taxing. Those times when so many people that see the worst side of you.

But it can be rewarding. Those times when they love you anyway.

It can be taxing. Those times when you feel useless.

But it can be rewarding. When so many people strive for a goal outside our themselves.

There is always hope.

In the end the rewards outweigh the taxing things.

Campfire this evening was good. Wil spoke. He used two verses in Proverbs. They dealt with “answering fools according to their folly.” Basically they say that sometimes it’s good to do and sometimes it’s not. We talked about trying to break down when it’s appropriate to “answer a fool according to their folly.”

I personally was interested with the idea of when is it most appropriate to answer a fool according to their folly. Levi brought up a good point. What is folly anyway? I think the discussion could be ongoing.

Luke is going for his tests in the next two days. He’s testing to be in the coast guard. He’s a bit nervous. If you read this in time maybe you could say a little prayer for him.

Also, Eric’s (Dryer Sheets’) cousin just got a tumor removed from his brain. Talk to his creator about that…

its totally worth it

By noah | March 5, 2007

The past few days have really been …..how do i say this…..kinda weird. I am usually a straight shooter, and when people come talk to me….i tell em exactly what god puts on my heart to say and I take no sides. I never thought that me being like this would cause people to feel so safe in talking to me about their problems. In the last 3 days, i have had 2young ladies come talk to me about some life issues, family problems, and just general worries. I have never had to deal with something like this. I enjoy it because i can see and feel god flowing through me when i talk. I was unsure of my role in Emmaus when i moved in. If the only thing i ever do in Emmaus is help these 2 young girls, ITS TOTALLY WORTH IT.

Cool Hand Luke.

By Levi Landis | March 5, 2007

Im a little nervous. I see a lot of good in this whole week. A great folk/country show on Saturday J Francis, an indie-riffic extravaganza on Wednesday with Tigersaw and OTB and N. Hohol, and then a rock block give-death-a-melvin show on this coming Saturday. All this in a span of a week. Most venues with our resources probably wouldnt try to pull it off. We will know after this week whether we should have. But fine folks line the corners of the great E. I take heart! Concerts have been so great here. Im loving life with this music.

Tales of the Office

By Ryan | March 6, 2007

my cubicle

I was sitting here in my little cubicle (see above), when a co-worker came in. We made chit chat for a few minutes. I said, “so what’s on your brain?” I knew she didn’t come over to talk about breakfast cereal.

She said, “I think you need to know you’re getting a reputation around here.”

I thought I was found out. I started to form my defenses. “I’m not on the internet that much.” “I know I don’t shower that often and my clothes are slovenly, but I’ll start to take better care of myself.” “I can’t help it I have one long meal that lasts the entire day.”

“What kind of reputation?” I asked her.

“A good one.” Shew! I may have even visibly sighed relief. “I just hear people talking. People like you, and you’re doing good work.”

It felt good. It’s funny how important recognition really is.

Also, I didn’t know this, but I was informed that I went temporary, full time as of March 1. That means, basically, I am full time without health, dental, and holidays. I get salary, 401k (which is actually very nice), and paid holidays. Downside? I have to work 40 hours a week now. I gotta roll up here on Fridays now. Upside? Money.

just some stuff

By Ryan | March 8, 2007

Really dug the show last night. Thanks for everyone that played and came out to listen. Hopefully we’ll get a podcast of it up. Tigersaw ended up sticking around and supplying the music for the after show dance party.

So this morning was absolutely gorgeous. It was foggy, but there was a glow of the sun. The trees were covered in ice. They hid in the fog and glimmered. Amazing.

I’m listening to the Cameron Hull CDs. I like them a lot! He was definitely cool.

I was domestic last night. I did about 3 months worth of laundry and did some grocery shopping.

Well, I better get back to work. I am, after all, getting paid to write this entry.
